When we change residence from one country to another something we want to take to the new country is our car. We ask ourselves the following questions:

Registration of a vehicle because of change of residence is very similar to the purchase of a car from abroad, but there is a difference as we can take advantage of the situation we are moving from another country to Spain.
Whenever we submit the required documents we could avoid paying the registration tax . You can avoid paying registration tax in some cases and in case you come from a country outside the Euro zone you could avoid paying VAT and Customs Duty.
To take advantage of these benefits you need:
To apply for a baja consular – a legal sworn statement issued by the Consulate of your country of origin stating that you were a resident of that country for the last 12 months and now you are a resident of Spain.
In case you do not manage to obtain the baja consular, you could apply for a certificate providing residence from the local government.
If you could not obtain baja consular you can apply for a certificate from the
Original invoice for the purchase of the vehicle where it is visible that the tax was paid otherwise a document issued by the fiscal authorities in the country of origin.
There are other requirements too, but without the sworn statement from the Consulate and the invoice it will be impossible to register your car because of change of residence taking advantage of the benefits available by themselves.
With regard to all those details we would advise you when you decide to change residence to have in mind that after moving to the new place and registering there as a resident you are supposed to register your car in 60 days time because of change of residence.
